Hi, my name is Tim Anders, and I am an experienced psychodynamic art therapist with a master’s degree in art therapy specialising in working with boys, teenagers and men with a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges, most predominantly ASD & ADD.
Training
After completing my BA in Fine Art from the University of the Arts London, I went on to complete a post graduate teacher qualification at the University of Hertfordshire, which I completed in 2007. Whilst working as an art teacher in various elementary and high schools I observed how the creative process of making art helped improve children's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. This experience inspired me to do a master’s degree in art therapy which I completed in 2011.
In 2013 the BAAT (British Association of Arts therapists) appointed me as an art therapy supervisor, and I supervised and trained art therapy students doing their master’s in art therapy at the University of Hertfordshire until 2016.
Founder of Arts Therapies for Children (registered charity number 1167912)
Whilst training these art therapists, I undertook some research to assess the effectiveness of providing art therapy within the school environment and was able to clearly prove that it was a very effective intervention. Armed with this data, I then went on to set up a charity in 2016 called ‘Arts therapies for Children’ www.artstherapies.org.uk which currently provides art therapy to 187 children per week across 35 Jewish primary schools in the UK.
Experience & specialisation
Prior to making Aliyah in 2021 I worked for many years at a special needs High School for boys, predominantly with teenagers experiencing a diverse range of challenges; including parental divorce, addictions, ASD, ADD, anxiety, psychosis and violent behaviour. At the same time, I also worked for several charities including Chai Cancer Care, providing bereavement counselling to children whose parents had cancer.
In parallel with my private practice, I currently work part time, as an in-house Art Therapist at a boy's High School in Bet Shemesh; working with teenagers diagnosed with a variety of conditions including ASD, ADD, anxiety and anger issues. In my private practice I work with people who, for various reasons, have not been able to work with conventional therapies. I tailor each session according to the person I am working with and their preferences. Some clients like to just talk, whilst others like to work with clay or paint or play games.
My goal is to use the medium of art or play to create a therapeutic relationship with my clients in which they feel comfortable to talk about themselves. Once my clients feel comfortable in my presence, I then ask more probing questions for myself and my clients to uncover underlying issues and to gain a clearer, more comprehensive understanding. I also work closely with parents to help navigate and manage the challenges and difficulties they and their children face.
Free consultation
My private clinic is in Modi’in, and I am available for a free initial consultation to answer any questions you might have. Please get in touch via What’s App or via my Contact page.
